Cock Radio, on the Couch, with Aye Aye

Gd’day Aye Aye, do you have a few moments?

Aye.

When did you first join the Hash?

Khartoum Hash in 1983 and Lion City in 1985.

How did you get your name?

I used to sing “Aye aye aye aye, si si senora ….” and, what with the Scottish connotation, Black Widow named me Aye Aye. Ripper then took great delight in showing me a picture of an Aye Aye. Another rare species.

Aye, I si. Do you have a memorable moment?

I was with Chastity Belt on the Iron Man Run around the Lake Taal crater at Manila Interhash in 1990 and we reached the drink stop after climbing what seemed at the time to be an endless very steep slope. The drink was chilled coconut juice out of the shell and it was heaven.

Sounds like you were just about high enough to be in heaven. What about your Favourite Run site?

I like the area west of Lim Chu Kang Road probably because (i) it was my first run site in Singapore as a hare and (ii) we do not get in there very often.

What do you like about the Hash?

Letting off steam at the end of the week.

What do you dislike?

Warm beer.

Good call. Best ON On?

There have been many enjoyable St Andrew’s Run On-Ons thanks to Captain Red Arrow and his guitar and perhaps the first one in the Hua Yu Yue’s private room in East Coast should get the vote. We were sponsored by a whisky importer but all they gave us was bottled water. We took along some whisky anyway and Squealing Pig had a great time dishing out the whisky in the wee plastic cups that had come with the bottled water.

Anyone you particularly admire on the Hash?

They all have something to admire.

On the Hash you should………

not talk to the GM half way through the run as he seems to be disorganised in appointing whips.

Any food you would not eat?

Being married to a Chinese I eat most things but I know I do not like sea cucumber.

What is your favourite run of all time?

The monkey temple run on my first Interhash in Bali in 1988. The run was off the tourist route with beautiful views, steep hill climbs, wading through rivers. It was spectacular. I think that was also the run where I gave Saliva a piggy back up a hill. It must have been the adrenalin from the run.

You are married?

To Saliva, since 1994

Children?

Just me.

Could you improve the Hash?

More young harriets

What changes have you noticed at the Hash over the years?

Smaller downs downs, less runsites, cleaner bodies, no starlit skies, bikes, dogs, horrors, athletes??

Any words of wisdom to leave us with?

Laddies, know yer place—

Auld Nature swears, the lovely dears
Her noblest work she classes, O:
Her prentice han' she tried on man,
An' then she made the lasses, O.

Not Robbie Burns by any chance? Finally, do you follow Boo?

He usually knows where he is so it is sometimes prudent.

Absolutely correct. On that note, thank you for sharing those moments and thoughts with us Aye Aye.
